Flavour, whose real name is Chinedu Okoli, took us back to his humble beginnings, when he was still hustling to make a name for himself. He recounted how things got real after he left his band and hit the streets, where the music scene was no joke.

“I was performing at my usual spot, City Centre in Enugu, where I had built a solid fan base. Every Friday, the place was always packed—no dull moment. Then one day, the promoters brought PSquare to the spot to promote their ‘Temptation’ album. As soon as they walked in, their manager told me to stop my performance. Just like that, I was asked to hand over the microphone,” Flavour shared, still sounding a bit stunned by the memory.

He continued, “The crowd went wild for PSquare—especially the ladies. When Paul grabbed the mic and started singing ‘Temptation,’ the place erupted. I was left sitting there, cold and speechless, watching it all go down.”

But instead of letting that moment crush him, Flavour took it as a wake-up call. He realized that to make it big, he needed more than just talent—he needed to create his own sound.

“That day, I understood that these guys weren’t just making music; they were creating something unique, something that belonged to them. I knew I had to step up my game. I couldn’t just be a ‘music man’ anymore—I had to become an artist.”

And that’s exactly what Flavour did. He went back to the drawing board, determined to find his own voice in the industry. It wasn’t easy, but that decision was a game-changer, turning him into the highlife legend we all know and love today.
